Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

This course is for health care professionals,policemen, firemen, lifeguards, athletic instructors and trainers, and other professional rescuers to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, infants, and children. It uses the 2016 CPR recommendations of the American Heart Association and the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council. The scenarios are especially geared towards professional rescuer simulations of roadside, construction site, ambulance, dentist office, etc. The instructor student ratio is 1:9, max 1:12. Add an additional 30 minutes for the maximum number of students.

You will be required to show proficiency on a written and skills test

Topics include:

  • Activation of the EMS system

  • Standard Precautions

  • Responding to breathing emergencies

  • Responding to cardiac emergencies

  • CPR for adults, infants, and children – one rescuer

  • CPR for adults, infants, and children – two rescuers

  • AED for adults, infants, and children

  • Bag valve mask resuscitation (BVM)

  • Advanced airways

  • Oxygen

  • Obstructed airway for a conscious victim

  • Obstructed airway for an unconscious victim

  • Critical thinking, problem solving, communication, teamwork

 

 

 

 

 

1. BLS for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course

This is completely instructor led and is for those individuals and companies that learn better with an in-class format. It requires 4.5-5 hours in the classroom, not including breaks. A CPR mask set that has both pediatric and adult masks must be brought to the class. The student must complete both a written and skills task to receive a certification certificate.

2. BLS for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course

This is a shortened version of the course intended for students that have already completed the full course and need to review or recertify, assuming they have a current certification. This is a 2 hour course not including breaks. A CPR mask set that has both pediatric and adult masks must be brought to the class. The student must complete both a written and skills task to receive a certification certificate

4. BLS for Healthcare Providers Challenge Course

This course is available for the individual that has previous knowledge of the subject area and just wants to demonstrate their competency with by passing the written and skills examination only. A CPR mask set that has both pediatric and adult masks must be brought to the class. The student must complete both a written and skills task to receive a certification certificate. Time varies.
